Call for summer electives in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital

Our academic partner university Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine offers 2 clinical elective placements in one of its teaching hospital - Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital located in Roanoke (Virginia, USA)

General rules:

  • 5th year of study, Faculty of Medicine/English Division,
  • number of places: 2
  • scope of rotations: for 2 weeks in each unit
  • requested dates for 4 weeks of rotations (August 5 – September 27,2019)

Requests for electives of longer durations or at other time period will not be accepted
 

Selection criteria:

  • highest GPA from all years of studies
  • fluent English knowledge certified by recognized language certificate or language test results based on an examination at the Foreign Language Center at WMU,
  • veryfied additional achievements and activities to the University

 

Students may apply for rotations in:

  • Cardiology
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Family Medicine
  • Internal Medicine
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Orthopadics/MSK Surgery
  • Pain Management
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Surgery

 

Conditions:

  • student cover all costs of air fare and accommodation (there will be a possibility to house in the dorm The Patrick Henry - 27,69 USD per day per student)
  • it is each student's responsibility to inform themselves about visa and immigration regulations. Students are advised to apply for visas (only US B-1 Business visitor visa) as soon as possible after accepting an elective offer
  • mandatory travel and health insurance
  • current vaccinations: tuberculosis, measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B, meningitis
  • drug testing
  • having your own stethoscope and protective medical clothing
  • scholarship in the amount of USD 1000.00 granted by the Kosciuszko Foundation
  • transfer from / to the airport is provided

 

Required documents:

  • fulfilled application form + photo in document format
  • confirmed by the dean’s office GPA from all years of studies
  • copy of additional achievements, activities in student unions/associations etc.
  • copy of the IELTS certificate or any other certificate as evidence of required level of the English language (at least C1)

 

Incomplete applications will not be processed!

International Relations Office (T. Chałubińskiego 6a, ground floor) by the closing date 05/03/2019.

Late applications will not be considered.

After verification of the submitted applications, our office will inform students qualified for the competition.
